introduction

Welcome to my little piece of the blogosphere. I started this blog while we were adopting our daughter as a way to keep faraway family and friends up-to-date on the progress. Over the years it has morphed into more of a journal of life in our house . . . as seen through the eyes of a Canadian suburbanite living in a small village in mid-western Finland. Check out the pages above for more info on us, as well as our adoption, and it would please me well if you left a comment to say hello!

it’s raining

Not men hallelujah .

When I left English class this evening (which I speak quite fluently, thank you very much, Tez), it was actually raining.

                                               rains

Do you know what this means?

Maybe, just maybe, spring is on it’s way.

Maybe, just maybe, we might be melting out of our snow drifts.

I’m afraid to get too excited, though.

I just may wake up to a fresh snowfall tomorrow morning . . . .

I understand what you mean---we woke up to about 6 inches of snow a week ago. Spring can't come soon enough!

Haha! We have had some nice weather recently, but I think it is supposed to turn colder on Wednesday for awhile. Don't think we are in danger of snow, like you guys have until - July?!! : )

hahaha! Sorry, if you set yourself up like that, I just help being a smartass...and I was in good company, too, I noticed :D

Spring...ahhh...it's been a long time coming, but I'm feeling hopeful, I am I am! Of course, we're probably still due at least one more snow storm...but maybe the snow will be completely gone by, say, May?!

St. Petersburg

Saint Petersburg: Sankt-Peterburg, Russian pronunciation: is a city and a federal subject of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. The city's other names were Petrograd (1914–1924) and Leningrad (1924–1991). Founded by Tsar Peter I of Russia on 27 May, 1703, it was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years (1713–1728, 1732–1918). Saint Petersburg is home to more than two hundred museums, many of them hosted in historic buildings. The largest of the museums is the Hermitage Museum, featuring interiors of the former imperial residence and a vast collection of art. Celebrating the 300th anniversary of its foundation, Saint Petersburg was selected as the main motif in a recent Finnish commemorative coin, the €10 Mannerheim and Saint Petersburg commemorative coin, minted in 2003. The reverse of the coin features a view of Saint Petersburg, with the Peter and Paul Fortress and its three turrets. In the coin the words "St. Petersburg 1703-2003" can be seen.
