introduction

Welcome to my little piece of the blogosphere. I started this blog while we were adopting our daughter as a way to keep faraway family and friends up-to-date on the progress. Over the years it has morphed into more of a journal of life in our house . . . as seen through the eyes of a Canadian suburbanite living in a small village in mid-western Finland. Check out the pages above for more info on us, as well as our adoption, and it would please me well if you left a comment to say hello!

wee bit of me wednesday

{one} what was your first job?

I worked at a Canadian fast-food chain – Harvey’s Hamburgers. Pretty good food, but horrid uniforms – brown polyester overalls, orange & white gingham shirts and brown, orange & white hats.

{two} have you ever seen a stand up comedian?

Way back in the day (1988?) I saw Dana Carvey, plus some locals at comedy clubs. In about ‘03 I saw Jerry Seinfield. He was greatSmile

{three} when was the last time you played mini golf?

I really can’t remember . . . must be sometime in the last few years, though.

{four} what was the last picture you took?

A picture of the view from our balcony, for my other blog.

{five} burnt food: yes or no?

Yes! I love it:)

{six} if you have a pocket full of change, what do you do with it?

Either give it to one of the kids for doing a chore, or put it in a dish I keep on my bureau.

{seven} can you touch your tongue to your nose?

Nope.

{eight} do you scrapbook?

Yes, I have even facilitated some courses . . . but it’s been awhile since I’ve actually done some work in my own albums (doesn’t stop me from ordering stuff, though).

{nine} do you buy lottery tickets?

Every once in a while. Twice in the 5½ years since we’ve lived here.

{ten} do you prefer to be in front of the camera or behind it?

Behind it . . . I guess that’s why it usually looks like my family goes on vacation without me.

Head on over to Leigh Ashley if you want to link up and play along!!

I am going to copy you and do this too! I need to break out of my blogging (or lack thereof) slump.

Ha! Love that you were a Harvey's girl...a close friend and I have a running joke from our teen days when we'd lunch at Harvey's; a woman working there had the most horrid voice...if she didn't smoke, I'd be VERY surprised. She talked like she needed one of those electronic voice box things. Anyways, when we'd place our orders she'd call it in to the kitchen via the microphone they had to use...so to this day, whenever we talk about cheeseburgers and fries, we can't help but to do it in the Harvey's woman voice! I'll have to demonstrate it to you one day ;)

And...burnt food...why??!

The outskirts of St. Pete

St. Petersburg

Saint Petersburg: Sankt-Peterburg, Russian pronunciation: is a city and a federal subject of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. The city's other names were Petrograd (1914–1924) and Leningrad (1924–1991). Founded by Tsar Peter I of Russia on 27 May, 1703, it was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years (1713–1728, 1732–1918). Saint Petersburg is home to more than two hundred museums, many of them hosted in historic buildings. The largest of the museums is the Hermitage Museum, featuring interiors of the former imperial residence and a vast collection of art. Celebrating the 300th anniversary of its foundation, Saint Petersburg was selected as the main motif in a recent Finnish commemorative coin, the €10 Mannerheim and Saint Petersburg commemorative coin, minted in 2003. The reverse of the coin features a view of Saint Petersburg, with the Peter and Paul Fortress and its three turrets. In the coin the words "St. Petersburg 1703-2003" can be seen.
