introduction

Welcome to my little piece of the blogosphere. I started this blog while we were adopting our daughter as a way to keep faraway family and friends up-to-date on the progress. Over the years it has morphed into more of a journal of life in our house . . . as seen through the eyes of a Canadian suburbanite living in a small village in mid-western Finland. Check out the pages above for more info on us, as well as our adoption, and it would please me well if you left a comment to say hello!

seven things

I received a nice little surprise this week from an IRL friend who is also a blogger. . . . she sent me an award:

versatile blogger

Thank you so much Sheri – it was a sweet thing to doSmile.

Now I’m supposed to tell you seven things about myself (and I will try to make them things not previously revealed on question blog hops):

  1. I love Drama. I used to love being in plays as a child/teen in school and church. As a teacher, I loved putting on productions and sponsored the Drama Club for a number of years during my teaching career back in Canada.
  2. During the summer after high school graduation, I went on a 6-week French immersion program in Quebec City. It was the first time I had flown or had been away from home for any length of time.
  3. My digital love is video editing . . . I love making movies out of our recorded home videos and photos. Right now I am in the market for a new editing program since we have an updated computer – my old program is too full of flaws . . .
  4. I have a hard time throwing things away/de-junking. My house (cupboards and drawers, mostly) is full of things that I don’t use/need/want but can’t bear to throw away simply because they were gifts. There’s too much sentiment attached to the items.
  5. I hate the sound of people eating, and if I’m already feeling a little irritated, the problem is increased exponentially. I know this is my issue – not those who are eatingEmbarrassed smile.
  6. I don’t like gossip. Especially in a small community where just about anything is fodder for people to talk aboutBaring teeth smile.
  7. My favourite drink (besides a grande sugar free hazelnut extra hot latte from Starbuck’s, which I can’t get here), is Pepsi Max (Europe’s diet Pepsi) . . . thus, our dogs’ names:

P9010090   P1020541

Pepsi                                                                Max

And now I am supposed to pass it on, so here it goes to (in no particular order):

Stacy at Adventures with Aidan

Sally at 4 boys + 1 Princess = Crazy Life

Tezzie at Not Always Picture Perfect

Amy at To Russia – With Love

Phyllis at The Beadle’s New Russian Adventure

Some are new friends and some are old. Please stop by and have a visit! Tell ‘em I said, “Hi!”

Barb

6 friends had something to say . . .:

Aw...thanks, my friend! I'll have to give it a 'thunk' and pass it on. And, how come I didn't know that was how Pepsi and Max got their names?...I feel like I should have known that, somehow (too clued out, I guess!)

I LOVE the name Pepsi for your furry friend. That is an awesome pet name! I am totally like you regarding gossip. I totally stay clear and free of that stuff since life has so many more important and more uplifting things to keep our minds occupied.

Thank you for your comment and award! : ) I will try to get it posted sometime soon (since I seem to be having problems posting in a timely fashion anymore).

Things have been quite rough here lately. I may be posting a little about it soon.

I think I would love to do the Bible study with you again. I have been wanting to do it again and just have not started. Email me about the details.

AND, I always wondered why you named your dog Pepsi!

It looks like we have several things in common! I like my coffee extra hot too.
And eating sounds drive me insane. It's actually quite irrational, and it is only getting worse as I get older. I will tell my kids, you can't sit by me and eat like that.
So if we ever meet one day, we will sit, and very quitely sip our really hot coffee!

St. Petersburg

Saint Petersburg: Sankt-Peterburg, Russian pronunciation: is a city and a federal subject of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. The city's other names were Petrograd (1914–1924) and Leningrad (1924–1991). Founded by Tsar Peter I of Russia on 27 May, 1703, it was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years (1713–1728, 1732–1918). Saint Petersburg is home to more than two hundred museums, many of them hosted in historic buildings. The largest of the museums is the Hermitage Museum, featuring interiors of the former imperial residence and a vast collection of art. Celebrating the 300th anniversary of its foundation, Saint Petersburg was selected as the main motif in a recent Finnish commemorative coin, the €10 Mannerheim and Saint Petersburg commemorative coin, minted in 2003. The reverse of the coin features a view of Saint Petersburg, with the Peter and Paul Fortress and its three turrets. In the coin the words "St. Petersburg 1703-2003" can be seen.
