introduction

Welcome to my little piece of the blogosphere. I started this blog while we were adopting our daughter as a way to keep faraway family and friends up-to-date on the progress. Over the years it has morphed into more of a journal of life in our house . . . as seen through the eyes of a Canadian suburbanite living in a small village in mid-western Finland. Check out the pages above for more info on us, as well as our adoption, and it would please me well if you left a comment to say hello!

big winner

F@ceböök friends already know about this, and I’ve kept forgetting to blog about it. Sorry.

But here it is now.

Several weeks ago, Sofia went with Stefan to an exhibition while I had a scrapbooking class. Sofia entered a draw – and WON!

P1050370

The label on the jar says “Guess how many candies are in the jar?”

She guessed 222, and was exactly right!

Sofia has a real sweet tooth, so this prize fits her precisely.

We are in our "Winter Sports Break” (kinda like Spring Break) right now. I usually use these days off work to get some heavy cleaning done . . . so far it’s been ALL the floors dry mopped/vacuumed/wet-mopped, the laundry room/shower hosed and scrubbed down, and the entire kitchen scrubbed (every greasy nook and cranny). I think I’ll be putting together some IKEA furniture tomorrowWinking smile.

PS. Stefan also won a prize the same day – 1000 litres of bio-diesel.

4 friends had something to say . . .:

Hey Barb, in regards to your comment on my blog, our farm is about 20 minutes away from the lake house. We didn't feel like opening up the lake house and sleeping there and turning on the heat ($$) so we stayed at the farm. Tom hunts it for Turkey and Deer and the boys love going there. We are about 30 minutes away from Tyler at school, so that was nice to see him. Hope you are doing good, and starting to warm up a bit! Sally

Amazing to have guess the exact amount! How is that possible?

Will you come clean at my house when you are finished?

Can't believe I'm reading a blog... :) And can't believe I had to stay up til 2 to do it... but that's life around here. I can't get over how grown up all your kids look. Has it really been three years that we've "known" each other? Wow!

The outskirts of St. Pete

St. Petersburg

Saint Petersburg: Sankt-Peterburg, Russian pronunciation: is a city and a federal subject of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. The city's other names were Petrograd (1914–1924) and Leningrad (1924–1991). Founded by Tsar Peter I of Russia on 27 May, 1703, it was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years (1713–1728, 1732–1918). Saint Petersburg is home to more than two hundred museums, many of them hosted in historic buildings. The largest of the museums is the Hermitage Museum, featuring interiors of the former imperial residence and a vast collection of art. Celebrating the 300th anniversary of its foundation, Saint Petersburg was selected as the main motif in a recent Finnish commemorative coin, the €10 Mannerheim and Saint Petersburg commemorative coin, minted in 2003. The reverse of the coin features a view of Saint Petersburg, with the Peter and Paul Fortress and its three turrets. In the coin the words "St. Petersburg 1703-2003" can be seen.
